Into the Unknown

As we venture into the unknown world ahead, I am hoping to capitalize on this time that once seemed like an illusive luxury to reflect on teaching, leading and being. I do not claim to be profound or ground-breaking, but I hope to be able to share my thoughts and build connections with others. As an elementary school leader, my days before the quarantine were busy with so many things that don’t exist in the same quantity as they did when all students and staff were at school. I find myself with time to spend and I want to spend it well.

I do have 3 children who require attention throughout the day, so I am also trying to balance that aspect of working from home. My children are 4, 8 and 10 and have enjoyed online learning during the two weeks they have experienced so far. My husband is a preschool teacher and has been recording stories for his students. We all miss “real” school.

I read inspirational quotes and stories every day. I rely on those things to keep me going. I love to learn about education, but honestly haven’t had as much time over my last 13 years as a school administrator to “indulge” in new learning in the way I would like. I know, I know, we should always make time, but time was something I never felt I had enough of to allow myself the opportunity to do new learning. However, now that I have cleaned out every cupboard, washed so many loads of laundry I can’t keep track (where does it all come from) and researched every meal I am going to cook over the next week, I feel it is time to turn back toward some new learning.

Where to start? This is where I will leave this blog entry and hope for some inspiration from those of you wondering or exploring the same thing. My kids want more lemonade and my dogs are barking and since I know my neighbors are home, I better let them in.
